Caitlin Clark

2020 Graduate
Basketball, Soccer
Caitlin was a four-year starter for DCHS basketball and holds numerous school records, including all-time assists and the single-game scoring record with 60 points. She led her teams to three state tournament appearances and was twice named Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2020, Caitlin earned national recognition as a first team McDonald’s High School All-American. She also played soccer for two years at DCHS, helping the team reach the state tournament both seasons and earning all-state honors as a freshman.

Caitlin went on to play basketball at the University of Iowa where she had a record-breaking career. She holds the record for the most points scored all-time by any college player  — men’s or women’s — in NCAA history. She is also the only player in NCAA Division I men’s or women’s basketball history to lead her conference in scoring and assists in four consecutive seasons. She led the nation in 10 different offensive categories and also broke the NCAA women’s tournament scoring record during the Hawkeyes’ final NCAA Tournament run.

Her college career is distinguished by a remarkable list of awards. Among the most prestigious, which she won each of the last two seasons, are the AP Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award, Naismith College Player of the Year, and USBWA National Player of the Year honors. She was also a three-time unanimous NCAA First Team All-American member, four-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree, and three-time Big Ten Player of the Year winner.

Off the court, she was a three-time first-team Academic All-American and the 2024 CSC Academic All-American of the Year. The University of Iowa retired her No. 22 jersey at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Click here for a complete list of collegiate records and awards.

Caitlin was selected first overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She went on to have a record-breaking rookie season, earning WNBA Rookie of the Year honors, a spot on the All-WNBA First Team, and an All-Star Game selection. She set multiple league records, including most points, assists and three-pointers by a rookie, and became the first rookie to record a triple-double.
Her impact extended beyond the court. In 2024, she was named TIME Magazine’s Athlete of the Year — the first WNBA player and only the second individual female athlete to receive the honor — and AP Female Athlete of the Year. She was also recognized by Forbes on its list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.

What she remembers most about DCHS is the close-knit community. Students are encouraged to grow academically, athletically, and spiritually, with unwavering support from classmates, faculty, and staff. It’s that sense of belonging and shared purpose that makes DCHS such a special place, one that leaves a lasting impact long after you’ve left.
