Dear Alumni,
We are reviving a Dowling tradition: the Dowling Catholic Alumni Band! I am assisting current DCHS band directors Steve Holland and Nicholas Hoover in recruiting former band and color guard members to join the 2024 Alumni Band. The band will perform at the DCHS Homecoming Football Game on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
Here are some of the Alumni Band details:
- Those alumni who sign up will be sent music for the Dowling Fight Song and 2 – 3 short riffs that the band will play during the game. This will allow individuals to practice these tunes in advance.
- On Thursday, September 26 at 5:00 pm, a rehearsal will be held for alumni band members in the Band Room at Dowling Catholic (1400 Buffalo Road, West Des Moines). Alumni band t-shirts will be distributed for members to wear to the game on Friday night.
- After rehearsal, all are invited to gather at Gilroy’s Restaurant near DCHS (1238 8th Street in West Des Moines). A separate room will be reserved, and attendees can order food and drinks to enjoy while visiting with other alumni (self-pay).
- On Friday, September 27, Alumni Band members will report to Valley Stadium (north entrance) with their instruments between 5:30 – 6:00 pm. Alumni Band members will play with the current DCHS Band during the first half. Students will be dismissed at half-time and the Alumni Band will play the Fight Song and riffs during the second half.
