Re: Information on the Duties of Sports Representatives
As we all know, in 2006 the Booster Club structure at Dowling Catholic High School was updated and the Maroon Athletic Booster Club was created. As we moved from individual sports booster clubs to one booster club, the need was recognized to have a mechanism that would facilitate communication between individual sport parent groups and the MABC. As a result, the position called Sport Representative was created. Because this is a brand new position this year, its duties are not yet well known. In an effort to better communicate these duties the following has been created:
Duties of the Sports Representative
- To hold sport specific booster group meetings on an as needed basis. This should start with a “kickoff” meeting held well before the season to allow athletes parents to get to know one another and to talk about any upcoming needs, schedules, etc. Other meetings can/should be held to provide updates or discuss any special matters that come up. Dowling will be glad to provide meeting space if you wish to have your meetings here. Contact Mary Pick in the Athletic Office to reserve a room.
- To work with the Dowling Catholic Athletic Office to recruit volunteers to help put on athletic events tournaments, meets, etc. Each athlete’s parent is expected to volunteer three hours per child per sport to help put on these fundraising events. All proceeds from these events are go to the MABC and are used to improve DCHS sport programs and partially fund post season athletic banquets.
- To work with the Dowling Catholic Athletic Office on the individual sport posters that are produced and sold each year as a fundraiser.
- To develop and/or expand a catalogue of sport representative/booster activities that need to take place during the year. For example, there are clothing sales, fund raisers, camp scheduling, coaches projects, etc that come up for most sports. This catalogue of activities is then passed on to the Sport Representative who replaces you when your term is up.
- To provide continuity by helping to identify and train your successor Sports Representative.
- To lead the organization and execution of your sport’s post season banquet.
Because this is the first year of the new booster club structure, there will be many questions that come up as we move through the different athletic seasons. As they do please contact one of the Maroon Athletic Booster Club Executive Committee members or the athletic office to get them answered.
