Dowling has its own calendar, attendance/ tardy policies, rules and athletic eligibility requirements. Take time and learn about our school rules, policies, and procedures. All of this information can be found in the DCHS Student Handbook.
Calendar
Dowling publishes a calendar that shows the school’s daily schedule and starting times, when it will be closed for holidays, and vacations, etc. Record all of these dates on a calendar at home.
Attendance/Tardy Policies and Procedures
DCHS has developed an attendance policy that 1) encourage regular attendance and 2) allow students to miss school when they’re ill. Know your school’s attendance/tardy policies. Expectations can be found in detail in the student handbook.
If you have a chronic or extended illness, have a parent call the attendance office at 222-1000 and make them aware. If you’re absent for more than a day try to get work to do at home so, that you don’t get too far behind. Contact Student Services at 222-1020 for help. Assignments may also be available on ed-line.
School Rules
To provide a safe environment that encourages learning, schools need to have rules. Most students understand that rules are necessary and they follow them. For the students who don’t follow the rules, there are, or course, consequences. Consequences, or punishments, can range anywhere from JUG (Justice Under God) to expulsion. The severity of the punishment generally depends on the seriousness of the offence and the past history of the student(s) involved. See handbook for specifics.
Athletic Eligibility
Dowling has eligibility requirements for sports. Athletes are required to maintain passing grades in a minimum of four classes, plus religion and physical education. These same eligibility requirements also apply to students who participate in other extra-curriculum activities. If you have a question or concern about eligibility, see your counselor, principal, coach, or athletic director.
